After the fantastic 1997-98 Season, Arsenal Fans were eagerly awaiting more success, especially in the Champions League.
Arsenal had decided to switch their home games to Wembley in the Champions League.
This was undoubtedly a financial success due to regular attendances of 73,000,but many Arsenal Fans believed it removed any advantage on the pitch, as the opposition players all seemed to relish playing at such a famous stadium.

In the 5th round Arsenal beat Sheffield Utd in a replayed game at Highbury 2-1 after winning by the same score in the original match with a controversial goal, after Arsenal pressurised the United defence when the game was restarted after an injury.

Unfortunately, all this hard work was undone by a late Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink goal in the 1-0 defeat at Leeds.

Strangely, the Leeds fans celebrated as though they’d won the League themselves.
Yet, these Leeds fans have always claimed that they hate Man Utd more than anyone else.
Somehow, I don’t think Arsenal Fans would celebrate beating Leeds and sending the title to the Lane.
Maybe, that’s just me?
Arsene wasn’t happy either.
Surprise, surprise, the team from the Lane lost at Old Trafford on the last day of the season and Man Utd were Champions.
Arsenal beat Aston Villa on the same day, to eventually finish as creditable Runners Up.
