Last Gasp Gunners.

Today is the 40th Anniversary of the European Cup Winners Cup Final.

Arsenal vs Valencia in Brussels. I will be writing about this in future Posts.

Mark Kendall - He was their goalie when we won 5-0 at the Lane.
We had to remind him when he turned up in the Robinson Crusoe pub one match day.

Happy Days.

Happy Days - Tuesday 12th May was the 41st Anniversary of the Arsenal vs Man Utd Cup Final.

                                                                  Last Gasp Arsenal

Many of us went to see Arsenal beat Wolves 2-0 in the FA Cup semifinal at Villa Park.

I’m In - Again.

Frank Stapleton scores  - Again.

Arsenal goal scorers Alan Sunderland & Frank Stapleton.

We’re off to Wembley again, for our 4th FA Cup Final in 10 years.
Blimey, when I was a kid I dreamt of seeing Arsenal play in one.

You should all know about the game and the result, so I’ll just display some photos.

How Arsenal got there.

The Squad.

Our Squad.

They were there.

So was I.

They were there also.

My hat was there.

Poor Malcom Macdonald wasn’t playing there - injured again!!

My mate “Spandau” was there.

Sadly, in 2015 he was diagnosed with a terminal illness which he endured with immense courage and humour until his death in 2017, aged 60.

He’s remembered at Arsenal for his banner, which was displayed at Cup Finals and away games.

Spandau Banner - not Ballet.

Liam was there - thankfully.

“Noddy” scores.

So does Frank.

Walford arrives as Sub - First Torpedo - we’re hit!!

2nd Torpedo  - we’re sinking!!

Maybe there is a God??

Well, Rixy had a Cross.

Alan Sunderland nailed it.

Mickey Thomas wasn’t happy - he’d have his revenge in 1992 with Wrexham.

Pat’s Happy.

Frank Stapleton is practising wearing a United shirt.

They’re happy.

We’re all happy.

Bathing & Laughing!!

After the game we returned to the Sebright for a few beers, and at some point ended up in the “Venus” Steak house in Bethnal Green Rd.
The perfect end to a perfect day.

Many years later, I met Steve Walford at an Arsenal Quiz night. I told him that “ until he came on as a Substitute in the ‘79 Final, I had Brown hair”. He pissed himself laughing.

Steve Walford in centre at back - where he should have been in 1979.

Our Quiz team and Bertie Mee.
